In our world today, every decision is data-driven, and the F&B and FMCG industries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) are no exception. The F&B and FMCG industries have been undergoing remarkable transformations in 2023. As a location intelligence company dedicated to offering strategic insights for data-driven decisions and risk mitigation, we've delved into the industry scene to provide valuable insights for F&B and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) marketing strategies.

There are over 132,383 restaurants, cafes, and bakeries in Saudi Arabia with unique offerings. Saudi Arabia has a unique food culture. Tailoring your menu to local tastes and preferences is key to success in its competitive landscape.

Navigating The Competition?

As businesses gear up to seize the moment, the role of location data cannot be underestimated. Whether you're catering to Jeddah's seafood enthusiasts or Riyadh's love for traditional dishes, knowing the preferences of locals is paramount. Your marketing strategies can then be tailored to align with these specific demographics.

Location data allows you to study customer preferences and adapt accordingly. You can access this kind of data from location data providers like xMap. At the end of this article, you’ll get rich insights and numbers to make strategic decisions, whether you’re planning to set up a new site, study your competitors, or know what’s trending.

Restaurants in Saudi Arabia Provinces

This data attribute stands out as one of the most significant features within our dataset, and it's quite straightforward to grasp. This data visualization effectively showcases the distribution of restaurants, cafes, and bakeries across various provinces in Saudi Arabia, delineating each establishment individually as a point of interest (POI) on the map image below. Each point on the map corresponds to a specific restaurant, cafe, or bakery location.

Riyadh Province has the highest number of restaurants, cafes, and bakeries in Saudi Arabia followed by Makkah and Eastern Province.

Riyadh Province has over 33,399 restaurants, cafes, and bakeries, Makkah has over 31,872 and Eastern Province has 21,499 counts. Northern Borders Region has the lowest establishment population with 1,601 restaurants followed by the Al Bahah Region with 1,806 restaurants, cafes, and bakeries.

This point of interest data can be used to develop actionable business intelligence strategies. POI data like this can help you with:

  1. Precise Targeting: You can pinpoint your audience, tailoring marketing efforts to locations where your potential customers dine. This increases your ROI.
  2. Competitive Insights: By analyzing the F&B landscape in specific areas, you can make informed decisions on the best locations to open new establishments, stay ahead of competitors, and tap into trending neighborhoods.
  3. Personalized Experiences: Understanding consumer preferences through POI data can help you craft personalized menus, promotions, and experiences, fostering customer loyalty and satisfaction.

Traffic Data of Restaurants, Cafes, and Bakeries

The traffic score serves as a metric to gauge the popularity of a specific restaurant, cafe, or bakery. Our methodology involves aggregating data from various phone sensors to create an index that reflects the vibrancy and activity levels of each establishment when compared to others across different regions.

From the legend in the image above from the xMap platform, you can see the density of traffic spread across Riyadh, Jeddah, Mecca, Medina, Dammam, and Dhahran. Though the center cities like Riyadh receive high traffic from customers, restaurants in the outskirts of Saudi Arabia also have a high traffic score— that’s high visitation from customers.

Out of 132,383 restaurants, cafes, and bakeries in Saudi Arabia, there are 4,473 of them that are highly visited, and just 4 of these establishments have a 5-star rating. They are mostly dine-in restaurants, fast food restaurants, chocolate shops, cake shops, coffee shops, and candy stores.

Riyadh Region has 1,312 out of the 4,473 most visited restaurants and Makkah Region has 1,276.

How to Increase Traffic for Your F&B Establishment in Saudi Arabia

Though there exists fierce competition in the F&B market, there are many ways to navigate the market, stand out, and attract more customers to your restaurant, cafe, or bakery.

  1. Solid Marketing Strategies: local partnerships and collaborations with local influencers or nearby businesses would help boost visibility. Be intentional about optimizing your online profiles and leveraging food delivery platforms for wider reach. Hosting special events is a good way to start creating a buzz to attract new customers.
  2. Strategic Location Selection and Optimization: For increased traffic in your F&B establishment, choose the right location within Saudi cities, considering traffic, accessibility, and local demographics. For this, you need location data. Whether you're a cozy café or a bustling city restaurant, understanding customer habits is vital for attracting them to your doors.
  3. Data-Driven Decisions: Leverage data analytics by analyzing location data for insights into consumer behavior. Use this information to optimize your F&B business strategy, from operating hours to menu offerings, aligning with customer preferences.

Price Range of Restaurants, Cafes and Bakeries

As an F&B business, understanding your competitors and your own pricing is pivotal for success. With our location data, you can pinpoint optimal pricing strategies, aligning with your target audience's preferences and market trends.

Most of the restaurants in Saudi Arabia are moderately expensive. Out of 132,383 restaurants, cafes, and bakeries in Saudi Arabia, there are 14,869 moderately expensive establishments. 5,281 are inexpensive and expensive restaurants are rare.
