One of the most popular island countries in East Asia— Taiwan, is known for its beef noodle soup, night market, and bubble tea. It’s not a surprise that Taiwan has a bubbling and competitive F&B industry.  As a tourist attraction, there are still so many opportunities for F&B businesses with the right strategies.

How can F&B businesses stand out in such a vibrant market, with fierce competition yet so many opportunities for generating huge business returns?

In today's market, every decision is driven by data, and the F&B and FMCG industries in Taiwan are no exception. These industries have experienced significant transformations in 2023, and as a location intelligence company committed to furnishing strategic insights for data-centric choices and risk management, we've dug into this industry to offer invaluable guidance for F&B and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) marketing strategies.

Taiwan boasts over 179,220 restaurants, cafes, and bakeries with distinctive offerings. Taiwan possesses a distinct food scene, formed by the unique mix of cultures.

Geographical Distribution

Geographical Distribution by province shows the dispersion of restaurants, cafes, and bakeries across different regions in Taiwan, clearly visualizing each establishment as a distinct point of interest (POI) on the map image below. What that means is that each point you see on the map represents a restaurant, cafe, or bakery.

Let’s look at the provinces with the highest and lowest establishment population in Taiwan from xMap’s data intelligence platform:

Taichung Province has the highest number of restaurants, cafes, and bakeries in Taiwan followed by New Taipei and Kaohsiung Provinces.

Traffic and Popularity Data

This is used to analyze how popular and busy a restaurant, cafe, or bakery is. This data is collected data from multiple phone sensors to come up with an index of how lively and busy each location is compared to others.

From the image above gotten from xMap platform, you can see the density of traffic spread across Taiwan. Areas with dark Green points have F&B establishments that are highly visited and areas with Greenish-Yellow color have above-average visitations.

5% of the 179,220 restaurants, cafes, and bakeries in Taiwan are highly visited restaurants, and 40 of these establishments have a 5-star rating.
