Big data is transforming societies and businesses. In this seminar, we will introduce use cases where location big data is adding monetary value in industry and where it’s adding social impact through the University of Tokyo. In logistics, last mile delivery is the least efficient component in the supply chain process. In Rakuten, we use real time tracking at scale to increase efficiency, reduce delivery cost and improve customer experience. In infrastructure planning and management, traditional methods to estimate transportation demand are expensive and time consuming. At the University of Tokyo, we use big data from mobile network operators to model people flow and create statistics that can supplement existing surveys and add value to society.
